What we can help with

More than just printing.

Most students arrive needing prints for a submission or a wall display. But before you even press print, there are decisions that make the difference between a good portfolio and a great one. We’ll happily talk you through any of it.

Print quality & sizing
Genuine photographic prints on Fuji silver-halide paper — not inkjet repro. Better tones, longer-lasting, looks right in critique.
Paper choices
Gloss, matt, lustre, fine-art — honest advice on which paper suits the work you’re making, not just what we’ve got most of.
File prep & colour
If your files aren’t printing how they look on screen, bring them in — we’ll help you understand why and how to fix it.
Mounting & presentation
Advice on board mounting, framing, and how to present a series for a submission, exhibition, or final show.
A second pair of eyes
If you want an honest opinion on a selection before you commit to printing twenty of something — ask. We’ll be straight with you.
Practical advice
Camera questions, exposure problems, location ideas, how to approach a brief — thirty years of working experience to draw on.
Why ask us

A working photographer, not just a print counter.

I’ve been a professional photographer for over thirty years — working on assignments across the UK and around the world before settling into running the shop here on Marlborough High Street. I still shoot regularly, including the official photography at Marlborough College.

That matters for students because the help you get over the counter isn’t generic. It’s a conversation with someone who’s made the same mistakes, faced the same deadline panics, and figured out the same problems — just earlier, and more times.

We’ve worked with photography students at every level for years. Bring your work in, and we’ll treat it seriously.

Editorial, portrait, event, location and studio work across the UK and internationally. Still shooting today.
Whatever level you’re at

From first portfolio to final show.

GCSE

Building a portfolio

First steps in photography: learning composition, understanding your camera, putting together a coursework portfolio. We help with print sizing, paper choices, and presentation for submission.

A-Level

Developing a voice

Personal investigations, technical experimentation, and increasingly ambitious work. Print quality starts to really matter at this stage — and so does honest feedback on edits.

Degree

Professional standards

Final-year shows, degree portfolios, exhibition prints. We work with degree students on fine-art papers, larger formats, and presentation choices that hold up under serious examination.

Coming soon

Student workshops

We’re developing a programme of in-store workshops aimed at students — covering everything from basic camera technique to printing for submission. Details to follow. If you’d like to be notified when we launch them, drop us a line and we’ll add you to the list.

Pop in and say hello.

Bring your work, your camera, your questions, or just yourself. Best way to know whether we can help is a conversation over the counter.
